Facebook Add-ons, Tips and Tricks
The list includes some of the Useful Facebook Tips, Tricks, and Add-ons. You can use them to customize Facebook experience and download from Facebook Some of these tips work from within Facebook, while rest work through extensions. Make sure to try them, and uninstall if not useful in your case. The extensions we have listed are used by a lot of people, but since Facebook keeps changing the interface, some extension may not work as they will need an update.
1] Turn off Facebook Birthday Notifications
Let’s accept one thing if it wasn’t Facebook; we would have remembered most of the birthdays, especially those with whom you became a friend online. So while it’s useful if you do not like to get notification about it, and want to tone it down, here are the steps to disable Facebook Birthday Notifications
Open Facebook, click on the down arrow on the top-right. On mobile, you can tap on the three horizontal lines.Locate, and open Settings and Privacy > Settings > Notification Settings > BirthdaysHere you have a couple of optionsCompletely disable notification on FacebookDisable notification of upcoming birthdaysDisable Belated Birthdays
If you want to keep it but tone down the notification, then you can choose to disable some of the ways like Email and SMS to get those notifications.
2] Mute or Unfollow Facebook Friend
Accepting, and keeping a person on Facebook as a friend has become an obligation. Especially when you know them, but their posts always annoy you. So how do you avoid annoying posts from people you do not wish to be a friend, but are forced to be a friend. The answer is to Unfollow it simply. It’s like how you can mute someone on twitter. There are are two ways to unfollow friends to reduce or get rid of notification about their post in your timeline.
If your good old friend has all of a sudden started posting, and you want to mute him for only a couple of days until he gets over, then you can choose to mute him for 30 days.
Open a Facebook Post made by him or her.Click on the three-dot menu, and then you have a bunch of options.If the person is sharing from a particular page, you can choose to snooze or hide all from those pages.You can choose to completely unfollow or snooze all posts from the person for the next 30 days.Or you can report it Facebook if its something that is annoying for a valid reason.
You can also unfollow directly from the profile page of a friend. Click on the contact looking icon, and select unfollow. TIP: F.B. 3] View Most Recent Posts
It is probably the most annoying thing which Facebook has done. Earlier, there was a way to change activity from Facebook contacts to recent. However, it was changed to temporary and replaced with the most popular posts on your timeline. That said, there exists a way to see the most recent posts, but it’s temporary. You will have to access it every time to view it. Available in the new design, click on the See More button on the left sidebar. Locate Most Recent link, and click on it. The Activity Timeline on your Facebook will switch to most recent, and I am sure you will end up discovering a lot of posts from your Facebook friends.
4] Save Links and Videos
Many a time you want to read or watch something on Facebook, but not right away. However, Facebook makes it impossible to find them again. The easy way is to save them in your Facebook account. It can be done for all the activities, including videos. Click on the three-dot menu on activity on the right, and you can choose to save a link, post, video, and so on. You can access them again by expanding the menu on the sidebar on the left and click on the Saved link.
5] Get New Login alerts

6] Download a copy of your data
If you want to keep all the activities on Facebook, Images, and interactions, Facebook allows you to download all the data on your computer. You can view these files even when offline, and without logging into it. Here is the step by step guide to export Facebook Data.
7] Block App invites and game request
It is the most annoying thing that can happen to anyone. There are many apps that allow you to connect with Facebook, and once it’s done, your friends can start sending you to invite. It can fill in notifications, and waste a lot of time. I have disabled apps invites and game requests, and you shouldn’t unless Facebook and Gaming your thing. Go to Facebook Settings > Apps and Websites. Locate the section—Game and App notifications. Click on the Edit button, and choose to turn off.
8] UnSeen for Facebook
UnSeen is a Chrome extension that can block the Seen feature, delivery receipts, typing indicator, and the last login indicator. You can choose to apply it for Facebook messenger or only on Facebook.
9] Customize Facebook with Social Fixer
Social Fixer is a Chrome Extension which can customize the Facebook in the browser. You can filter news feed by content, author, and even link URL. You also have predefined filters such as Sponsored Posts, Political posts, things your friends like, and much more. Hide posts you’ve read and are done with, so they don’t appear in the news feed anymore. Download from the Chrome Store
10] Schedule your Facebook updates
There is no official way to do it, but you can use third-party tools such as Hootsuite, Dlvrit to get that done. These tools offer 3-4 posts for free. You can even post from Twitter to Facebook if its the need. That said, Facebook does offer to schedule posts, but that is available for Admins in Facebook Pages.
11] Hide Online Status for Facebook
Open Facebook, and on the bottom left, click on the three-dot menu in the Contacts list. Then click on Turn of Active Status. Here you have three options—Turn of for all contacts, Turn off for all contacts except for some, and Turn off active status for only some contacts.
12] Download Facebook Video
While Facebook doesn’t offer a direct way to download videos, there are multiple ways to do it. You can download them without any software, including private videos, and then there are a lot of third-party software and online services that can do it for you.
